Ok, "useful" is possibly a stretch. Does anyone send postcards anymore?
I cook brunch on weekends, and found myself toting two knives back and forth. Most knife rolls or cases out there are made for super chefs with a dozen blades, so I bought some leather and canvas, learned a new stitch and made a small one for myself.
Since then, I've been trying to decide what to make with all the material left over--because of course I bought way too much.
Call it what you like, I suppose the name doesn't matter. I've been working on "correspondence rolls," basically. A little kit for your pencils and postcards and a notebook, when you're out traveling or people watching.
A lot of what I make and sell, I assume it gets read and then discarded. In some ways, it makes me more focused on how it will be received. Will they like it?!?
But with something like this, it has a purpose as well as an aesthetic. Hopefully it will find a good home.
I really enjoyed making this. I used a hammer and nail to score the leather and canvas, a sealant on the three exposed seams (will sew them next time), and a single grommet for leather tie. I'm not sure how long it took to make, but it wasn't fast. Probably I can get faster as I learn.
It's a complete thing. Wine not included, however.
